GOING BEYOND RUGBY
TIRF believes in eliminating barriers that prevent young people from reaching their full potential both on-and-off the pitch. Thanks to the generosity of the Doncaster Foundation, Eventi, YTM Capital, and the Myers Family, TIRF is able to offer post-secondary scholarships and bursaries to eligible players. The aim of the TIRF Scholarship Program is to produce outstanding leaders and citizens willing to give back to their local communities through the development of rugby and other social initiatives.

About the application process
Review these frequently asked questions before you begin your application.
Deadline to submit applications will be announced soon.
Can I apply for a TIRF Scholarship if I am already a TIRF Scholar?
TIRF Scholars, and previous TIRF scholarship applicants, are able to apply for awards. Eventi-Webb Award recipients, that still meet eligibility requirements, are welcome to apply again. Doncaster Award recipients are able to apply for a scholarship renewal, but must meet on-going requirements.
What are the eligibility requirements?
We carefully review all applications and take into consideration each applicants personal story. Selected applicants will share a common commitment to rugby, their schools and larger communities, by demonstrating strong character and leadership qualities through their extracurricular involvement and work experience. All TIRF programs and services are guided and measured by the five world rugby values of: DISCIPLINE, RESPECT, INTEGRITY, PASSION and SOLIDARITY. These values are at the core of our scholarship program and can be seen in our current scholars.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Involved in rugby either as a player, volunteer, coach, TIRF staff and/or in any other capacity.
- Demonstrated financial need. This could be that you live in a priority neighborhood, attend a high-school that is associated with TIRF or are eligible for Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP).
- Display strong academic performance and/or athletic achievement.
- Demonstrated involvement in your community and/or school.
- Current post-secondary students or high-school students that have applied to an accredited post-secondary institution such as University, College, or a trades program.
Does this award cover community colleges, trade schools and certificate or non-degree programs?
Yes, TIRF scholarship awards can be applied to any accredited post-secondary institution.
Can I apply if I have not been accepted to College/University?
Scholarship awards will be granted on condition of acceptance to a post-secondary institution. Please let us know once you have been accepted into college/university or if your situation changes and you will not be attending college/university in the coming year.
What are my chances of being awarded a TIRF scholarship?
Your chances of success are determined by the quality of your application and your eligibility. To improve your chances of receiving an award, make sure that you keep to the deadline, submit all documents, and dedicate plenty of time to preparing your application. In the short essay portions make sure you communicate your story, goals, ambitions, and why you are interested in becoming a TIRF Scholar.
What should I include in my scholarship essay?
Please tell us all about your accomplishments, your ability to overcome barriers, your involvement in extra-curricular activities and anything else that demonstrates your character. Be sure to read the essay questions thoroughly and adhere to the word count.
Do I need to provide a reference letter?
Two reference letters are required as part of the application process. Think of people that know you and can speak of your personal, academic or extra-curricular abilities such as teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, employers, or supervisors.
How can I ensure that I complete my scholarship application and submit it on time?
It’s important to begin working on your scholarship application as early as possible. Please review the timelines on our website and keep note of important deadlines. Be sure to find and request your references early to provide them with enough time to write your letters.
