Two Toronto District School Board High-School Rugby Coaches Announced as the Inaugural Recipients of the Doncaster Mentorship Award

Toronto, Ont. Sept 2018. The Doncaster Foundation announced Victoria Park Collegiate Institute rugby coach and teacher, Stephen Larratt-Smith, and Malvern Collegiate Institute’s volunteer rugby coach, Paul Myers, as the inaugural recipients of the Doncaster Mentorship Award.

Inspired by the touching stories shared by the 2018 Doncaster Scholarship applicants, the Doncaster Mentorship Award looks to recognize all of the invisible kilometers that Toronto’s rugby coaches run to grow the game, build character, and nurture self-confidence in young people.

This year’s Doncaster Mentorship Award recipients embrace their roles as mentors, sponsors, and advocates of young people. Through their informal mentoring roles, these coaches protect, prepare, and challenge students to reach new heights in their athletic careers while emphasizing the need for academics or academic support. Their mentor/mentee relationships start because of rugby, and continue because of their steadfast commitment to helping young people both on-and-off the pitch.
